Part Time Community Paddle Leader 

About Us:

At Buoy we are on a mission to make being on the water a daily practice. We want to show that sharing is superior to owning by removing the barriers to getting out on the water. No longer is it necessary to own, store or transport your paddleboard, kayak or surfboard to be able to participate in the sport. Our lockers are built from marine grade aluminum, we provide premium equipment, and the equipment is accessed through our app. We are looking to foster and support a community on the water through Buoy lockers. Austin and Santa Barbara are the beginning and more will follow.

About the Role:

We are looking for support with events. We are looking for someone to lead a weekly paddle. This role will be in charge of guiding new paddlers through the process of renting a Buoy board, teaching new paddlers how to paddleboard and leading a group of paddlers on a fun one hour group trip. This role will have more responsibilities during the summer and will slow down in the winter, depending on traction. For our product to replace the need to own, we must provide a reliable experience both as a service and an add to the local community. We want the weekly paddles to attract a community of people who love the water to return weekly, like a community bike ride.

This person must be able to commit to scheduled events. They must have their own transportation. This person will report directly to the owners. 

Payment:

We will pay an hourly rate of $25/hr. 

Duties:

  • Lead weekly paddle events

  • Lead ‘onboarding’ events 

  • Teach new paddlers safe practices on the water

  • Show new paddlers how the Buoy locker works

Requirements:

  • Experienced water enthusiast

  • Communicate effectively and frequently

  • Water safety training is a huge bonus

  • Experience with leading groups

  • Local historical or local ecosystem knowledge is a bonus!

  • Give constructive feedback

  • Must have a smartphone to access the locker

  • Enjoy the work and take great care of the locker
